General Audition Information

Thank you for your interest in joining our community! We want this to be the best possible experience for everyone, so we ask that you review our general requirements for our audition process. At ASH, being part of a show is a commitment – to the theatre and to your fellow cast members. Teamwork is essential and we expect the following commitment from our cast members:

Scheduling & Conflicts

We ask that you consider that theatre is a time-intensive commitment, requiring that you prioritize your schedule according. Please do not audition if you do not plan to accept a role if offered to you. If you are planning to audition for another show which might interfere with your commitment to the one at ASH or if you have known conflicts for rehearsal or performance dates, you must notify the theatre of these conflicts at the audition. Part of what the theatre relies on is your commitment, your word, that you will fulfill your obligation, once you are cast. Without that assurance the theatre cannot continue to operate. Preliminary rehearsal schedules for all productions will be listed with audition notices.

Commitment & Concentration

You must be able to bring a sense of focus and concentration to rehearsals and performances, leave your everyday concerns and personal issues outside and be willing to fully engage in the production process. We need your imagination, creativity, and inspiration in order to make our show a success. Negative energy only diminishes a creative atmosphere.

ASH Theater Company's Junior Theater Program

Auditions: December 4th & 5th

Jeannette's School of Dance

536 Green Lane | Philadelphia PA 19128

The program is designed for ages 8-18. Students ages 6-8 may register for our junior ensemble group. The junior ensemble will participate in basic theater training and perform in only a select number or scenes. Students interested in stage crew should also register.

Based on the hit 1992 film and Tony-nominated Broadway musical, Sister Act JR. is the feel-good musical comedy that will have audiences jumping to their feet! Featuring original music by Alan Menken (Newsies, Beauty and the Beast, Little Shop of Horrors). Filled with powerful gospel music, outrageous dancing, and a truly moving story, Sister Act JR. will leave audiences breathless. A sparkling tribute to the universal power of friendship, Sister Act JR. is a reason to REJOICE!

There is a $50 registration fee due at the first rehearsal for all participants.

Tuition - $200 per performer, $100 for junior ensemble and stage crew

We never want cost to prevent a student from joining. Tuition can be paid through fundraising or sponsorships. Please reach out to Anthony - anthony@ashtheater.org for any concerns. Discounts available for families with multiple students participating.

What do I need to prepare for my audition?

Please prepare 1 full song and 1 monologue under 1 minute. You may be asked to only sing a portion of the song at your audition. Please remember that you are auditioning for the program, not just the show. Click the audition materials above and type in Sister Act Jr to view the character list and audition materials.

Does the song/monologue need to be from the show?

No. You can prepare any piece; however, please be sure that the song/monologue showcases your talents.

When are rehearsals?

Rehearsals will be held every Sunday afternoon and Wednesday evenings*

*Wednesday nights will begin in February

What if I can't make a rehearsal?

We allow a student to miss up to 2 rehearsals for planned conflicts. The following dates are required for all performers and crew members: March 30th, April 4-7 (Tech), April 8-10 (Performances).

Is there any tuition assistance?

Our goal is to make art accessible to all members of the community. We never want the cost of our program to be a burden. If your child wants to participate, we will help you to make it happen. Please reach out to Anthony at anthony@ashtheater.org for additional information.

Where are rehearsals?

Rehearsals will be held at Jeannette's School of Dance (536 Green Lane, Philadelphia PA 19138) and at Venice Island Performing Arts Center (7 Lock St, Philadelphia PA 19127).
